Great!!! Now you are 36 years and finally debt free from school while some of your friends will retire in 14 years.
The physician will make $300k-$800k or more per year for the next 14 years, Those friends that retire at 50 if they are lucky might have a pension of $50k/year in today’s dollars, and maybe $500-600k in a 401k. The physician with a little planning working the same 14 years could stop at age 50 a multi millionaire, drawing out a a couple hundred thousand a year to live on.

I know a few doctors. The ones who seem happiest and stress free practice academic medicine. Teach med students, see patients in the clinic, keep more or less regular hours and don't have to worry about running a practice. In fact one spends most of his time doing research and rarely sees patients at all.

The 7 on 14 off is an average of 90 rvus per shift
My job now is a day job with 1 shift focused on US, X-ray, and procedures, and the other on cross section
Cross section days are typically 50-60 ct/mri
Other shift is typically 120-130 studies with 80/20 X-ray to ultrasound. And typically a couple para/thora, a couple biopsy, and a couple esophagrams and an injection or two
What’s the most cross sectional you hit In a shift? Seems like the field is getting busier and busier.

The field gets an average of 8% busier every year. I notice it most on call shifts where you read for the entire hospital by yourself on the weekend
Busiest call shift has been 100 cross section and 120 X-ray/us. No procedures on those days. 12 hour shifts

Yeah. I hear crazy high numbers. I also hear that 30+ years ago, radiology was a super chill job.

It used to be cake. It no longer is.
Before computers based imaging, radiologists would read 4-5 cts on a shift and pull in 500k in the 90s.
Then even after computers, they started reading and earning more until reimbursement cuts in 2010.
Every year it gets busier and reimbursement gets cut more

And before Radpartners and mednax started enticing near retirement age doctors to sell.
