Yeah thats not true. That would mean 1666 stray dogs per square mile

could be over a couple year time period which would drastically decrease your estimate.

Well it’s in the NO metro area, so there’s probably a more educated, more responsible populace than what rural Louisiana holds.

well generally the people that have the urge to stop and pick up strays are the ones that will seek out a no kill shelter.
the shelter he stated is not a no kill shelter though

The stories always the same. The shelters take in X say they are only getting 10% of the stray animal population and then some local guy writes a click bait article saying there is x + 90%

Apparently the 1.2 million estimate is stray dogs and cats, not just dogs.

Regardless, it's a major problem in Houston as a whole.

quote:

A 2010 survey of Houston-area households conducted by the University of Texas School of Public Health found "stray dogs and cats" to be the most frequent neighborhood problem reported by residents surveyed, beating out crime, drinking water and dumping, among other problems.

The city and county shelters take in 50k animals per year. 1.2 million is probably a high estimate, but it's still a well documented problem in Houston.

I'm not knocking Houston, just pointing out the problem isn't isolated to Louisiana.

This isn't a LA problem, this is a rural area problem.

Oh no.

Houston, we have a problem.

It's wherever poor people live.

People in this area, and Louisiana in general, don't give a shite about their dogs.

Maybe the dogs sense this and leave these toofless bastards behind before they become part of the gumbo ingredients.

If you think LA has a stray dog problem you should check out Vieques, PR.
