Why would you immediately one-click it without doing a few minutes of shitty research even?
impulse buy. just needed a teapot and did a quick filter by top reviews, saw it was $9 and clicked it.
how can a teapot have 1,600+ reviews anyway?
as for the ratings

Maybe all of the reviews were bad.
EXACTLY my point. if that's the case, then this has no business showing up on the first page.
Case in point, type in 'king size bed sheets' at amazon
Shitty list starts with shitty sheets
First hit, 718 reviews, 4 stars. In fact almost everything on this page is by the same brand and same quality.
Yet the TOP REVIEW is below

FRAUD- 5 star rating is a complete fraud and so are the POLYESTER sheets! (not egyptian quality), December 13, 2013

This review is from: 1500 Thread Count 4pc Bed Sheet Set Egyptian Quality Deep Pocket -Queen, Black
FRAUD ALERT- complete fraud, 100% microfiber polyester, horrendous quality, see through and a complete fraud. I ordered two sheets both state they are 100% Egyptian cotton and 1500 thread count, they are the worst see-through polyester sheets even Kmart would reject. FURTHERMORE other reviews state company sends out pink slips stating they will send you free pillowcases if you leave good feedback (so corrupt), obviously we know why there are so many 5 star feedback on this item as the feedback is also a total scam and paid for by sending free pillow cases to customers willing to give 5 star feedback in exchange for 2 free polyester pillowcases!

UPDATE: Seller contacted me AGAIN on 12-11-2013 offering me a $10 gift card to remove my negative feedback

That's not the top review. It's the most helpful negative review. This is where taking 5 seconds to read the top of the review page comes in handy.
Amazon put all the info you needed right there for you to see. It would have only taken you 5 seconds and two clicks extra.

Well, I don't know, but that's certainly one thing I'd have checked out before buying it. I realize $9 isn't shite, but still...might as well buy what you're wanting to get instead of just gambling and getting the first thing you see and hoping for the best, no?

Why not? It's obviously something that lots of people buy, so maybe it being at/near the top of the results is relevant. Just because something is popular/widespread doesn't make it good (like Justin Beiber, herpes, and SFP's post count). But that doesn't mean it's not relevant to a search for sheets, or kettles, or whatever.

So there you go...the TOP review says don't get it. If you were to research a little (and by that I mean scroll down far enough to see the first review), you'd see that maybe you should think twice about getting the sheets...or at the very least research a little more.
And FWIW, I've bought things on Amazon before that had HORRIBLE reviews, but just because a few people think something sucks doesn't mean it actually sucks. shite, I've seen people give one-star ratings because they fricked up and bought something other than what they were intending to get. They remind me of you/this thread...they fricked up, and they turn around and give a shite rating instead of owning up to their frickup.

by 'jumping the shark' i'm saying these sheets shouldn't dominate the entire page of TOP RESULTS at amazon.
sure you can dig and find the problems in the comments, but why doesn't amazon's system promote truly good quality results instead?

Right.
A.K.A. you're using "JtS" incorrectly. Which many have pointed out to you numerous times at this point.
I feel like I'm trying to teach Algebra to a green Skittle.

No one's system can do that as long as dishonest reviewers exist.

look at that link i posted. its pretty black & white with these sheet sets yet they dominate the 'popular' results.
these shady sellers have gone so far as to try & buy the reviewer's silence.

Does one of those learn Algebra better than the other one?
If not, then it doesn't matter.

you think this guy is making this up? why hasn't he been sued for libel if so

UPDATE 02-24-2014: Since this seller has not been able to bribe us to take down our honest reviews, and since their tactics of using friends to attack negative reviews have also proved futile the seller is NOW CHANGING their description continually in order to make it look like they posted these were polyester from the beginning! THIS IS ANOTHER COMPLETE FRAUD as they have intentionally put fraudulent descriptions of these sheets from the start! Just click on my name and scroll down the page where you will see PICTURES proving they were sending out these polyester sheets in packaging that claimed they were "1500 Thread Count" and "100% Egyptian Cotton" ... please also note the seller keeps changing the name on the sheets so by the time you look at the pictures you will probably see a different brand name then what they are using now!

Right, which is why Amazon has ALL of the information at your fingertips. I'd say that's a pretty big thumbs-up for Amazon right there...they let their users dictate the reviews, and the fact that one of the top reviews tells of the scam, and the users have voted taht helpful (to get it near the top), is a plus for Amazon, not a minus.
All you have to do is take 10 seconds to scroll down and read, and you'd know not to just buy those sheets blindly.

every single one.
so why is this still listed at 4+ stars at amazon when this is clearly a big scam?

why??
Because you making a stupid decision based on helpful information provided by Amazon doesn't mark a moment where their quality or efforts decline. If anything, all this thread has done is show how useful Amazon's reviews CAN be when choosing to purchase a product. Nothing you've said or done here disproves that, yet here we are still..

That's fine. You can think 1+1=3 all day long all you want. But I will still be standing over here laughing at how stupid you are.

Because Amazon wants to make money. How Amazon makes money is that it promotes the items that people want to buy. Sometimes the majority of people want to buy cheapest regardless of quality. That's why the product you bought had the most reviews. More people bought it. That's why Amazon had it show up at the top. To encourage more sales.
