Birds ( especially the ones that fly at a higher altitude) can see the reflection of the moon/stars off of the water in ponds/lakes on clear nights. I don’t know how house lights matter. I do remember my dad hating full moons at pass a loutre because ducks wouldn’t be moving as much in the AM.

If we need to go full black out at home then every street light needs to come off too. I had two flights in the past week that were overnight and you could tell where you were because of the light patterns of the cities below you.

I remember Rush Limbaugh complaining about his beach front home having to go into blackout mode for some times of the year for when sea turtles would come ashore to lay their eggs. Those turtles were getting lost and dying instead of going back into the sea.
