Yep, that's him. Sadly I did not know his son until after he died. And you should read his book. It's one of the best first hand accounts of the PTO I've ever read.

yeah, I did it in 1981. Ooh Rah Bro. I did The Army Basic at Ft. Leonard Wood,MO. 3 years earlier.
I hit it at the last of winter,but it was strange weather year,there were huge snow storms almost all the way through it. Being from Alabama, I learned a lot of stuff.

The cold wasn't actually any worse.North Alabama,compared to Missouri, not really a big difference in Temps,but the way that weather patterns work,You just dont get as much snow in Alabama.
It was never cold that bothered me, but dealing with the way that snow gets into your boots, that was something I never knew about. I learned a lot.

When we did SERE, BRC, etc, I thought the Southern dudes were going to quit just because they were cold. They sure bitched about it enough, but I suppose no more than I bitched about the humidity down here.
