I got a 20+ year old maytag top load washer and I think the transmission is getting stuck. I took it half apart and forcefully spun it and now it seems to be working better. But when it was messing up it it threw the tub off balance.

Is this thing worth saving if it keeps giving me problems

Careful about doing your wife's laundry. You just might come across a pile that smells like poot.

1. Everyone is responsible for their own laundry (wash, dry, hang, fold and put up).
2. If you need to wash and it's occupied, locate the owner and request immediate removal. If the owner is unavailable, be kind and put the clothes drying for the owner.
3. If you need the dryer, locate the owner and request immediate removal. If the owner is unavailable put the clothes in the unclaimed property basket and notify the house manager.

Disclaimer
If something was dried that shouldn't have been see rule 1.
Any clothing that is not claimed within 7 days will be donated. Prior to donation, the owner will be given the option to purchase any or all of the clothing items at a secondhand rate.
All proceeds will go to the kind individual(s).
Verbal arrangements made to have someone do your laundry for you is not allowed. If there is no signed and dated written agreement it didn't happen.

I do it because I'm picky and I don't trust her.

My parents made me learn at 17 prior to leaving for college.

The water pump sticks on those causing the belt to burn and slip.
I would change the belt first and see if it gets better.
