Overtime can be great but it depends. My current job was always a two-man job. We'd both work 7am-5pm weekdays, sometimes later, and we'd rotate each working every other weekend. So basically 12 days on and 2 days off schedule. Sometimes if things were slow we'd be closed for our normal work weekend. He quit and they didn't replace him. I was glad to get the overtime at first. Went from working 40-60 hours a week to 60-75 hours a week. Rarely work less than 60 and I've worked up to 88hrs. In the four months since he left I've gotten 10 days off. That's a shite ton of overtime but I'd be more than happy to keep it at 50-60 hours so I could have a life.

Companies value their employees time at one rate, but I value my free time at another rate. I don't always like giving up 'my time' to someone who gives it a lesser value than I do.
As I've said to people, I'm employed by so-and-so, but I'm working for me.
Granted, I am single, no kids, but I am expected to work 5/10s. One of the things I like most about my schedule, if I need a Friday off for something, I can without using PTO. 2 Weeks ago I had a bachelor party to go on and was able to have a 3 day weekend without using any vacation time.
