Whatever happened to the law about commercials not being louder than shows?

Didn’t that law get put into effect? That’s a law I would love to see enforced nothing pisses me off more than having to scramble for the remote because it sounds like the damn speakers are going to blow.

I’ve noticed this in the last few months too.

There’s also a law that if I sign up on a list I’m not supposed to get telemarketers.

I don't listen to or watch commercials, so I've never noticed.

it pisses me off on Hulu
have to turn my volume up to like 28 to hear some shows and then commercials need to be only like 12

And when did Microsoft just plain give up on preventing windows from popping up and stealing focus? It never worked that well, but they stopped trying altogether at some point.
ETA: I’m not talking about browser popups but message boxes and whatnot created by applications that don’t own the foreground window.

There's also a law that people who enter this country illegally are supposed to be returned to their country of origin

See the ETA. I wasn’t talking about browser popups. We used to talk about this as an “arms race” between devs and Microsoft, and the devs clearly won.

Not so much our jobs as, your tax dollars.
But, you don’t need those.......to go to anything of value.

It doesn't apply to internet TV nor does the Do Not Call List for internet based robo calling companies. The government hasn't kept up with technology and regulation here.

I've gotten to the point where I just don't answer the phone if they aren't already in my contacts

I remember my Dad would have the TV loud AF. When a commercial would come on everyone would scream to turn it down... He didn't GAF...

How about where you’re taxes are spent, inclusive of food assistance, law enforcement and the judicial and penal system, not to mention an uninsured motorist hitting you, a pipeline that gets your kid hooked on drugs, nearby gang activity that depreciates the value of your home, a female relative getting raped or murdered or both or some kind of disease they were never vaccinated for, your kid missing out on a scholly due to affirmative action and not on merit and then of course, your job. Kind of sounds like londonistan doesn’t it?

a number of tv manufacturers used to build in technology that would prevent this. Unfortunately, in these days of extremely cheap flat screens, that technology is no longer included.

What about movies where the music and sound effects are loud as hell but you can't hear the dialogue?

I work in TV - There's a difference between a sounds "loudness/level" and it's "volume". You're correct the commercials are not allowed to have a higher standard "volume" than the show you are watching, they get around that though because they increase the "loudness/level" from the audio giving you the impression the commercial is louder than the "volume" of the tv show you were watching.
