If there is no God, why not hurt others? Without God there is no good or bad, right or wrong, good or evil. If there is no God, the “universe” couldn’t care less if you shoot your neighbor in the head or rob him blind. Where does the moral compass come from?

The moral compass comes from your moral compass. I don't need a god to think about hurting someone else and then recognize that I'll be causing pain to that person as well as their entire family. Do you know how much pain my wife would be in if someone assaulted me while I was out and about? Do you know how sad that makes me to think about her grieving? Why would I want anyone else to feel that sadness?

It's called empathy.

quote:

There absolutely is a God. He is loving and patient with us, even though many such as yourself turn away from Him. The logic behind those that support doing right by other people, but exclude the God given divine spark that drives that notion is absolutely flawed. I will never understand it.

That is fantastic that you believe that. I do not. I don't claim to know that there isn't a god, I just don't think there is one.

The notion that you need someone to keep a watchful eye over you so that you don't murder other people implies that you might lack empathy.

You seem to be a little more on the atheistic side vs agnostic. Your moral compass doesn’t come from your moral compass. That is like saying that is like saying that concrete came from concrete. Something mixed it.

All I am saying is that the inherent need for most humans to show empathy or love is simply not natural given the indifferent nature of the physical universe. For instance, there is no other creature on earth that would knowingly give their life for another if death was a 100% certainty. That is divine.

That said, I think too many people fall into the trap of failing to recognize the miracles around us everyday and take them as commonplace. We take so much for granted. To completely exclude the possibility of God, especially when He impacts every aspect of your life is a perilous and sad idea.

I will pray for you and all those that need Him.

Thank you, but I'll pass.

We just disagree. Your concrete metaphor makes no sense because we have legitimate knowledge of the origin of concrete. Human consciousness not so much. Sure, soemthing mixed it. You believe it was God. I do not.

You can just say that you respect my opinion and move on. Like I'm doing with yours. I respect your opinion, even though there's no god telling me to do as much. I think it's a fine opinion. But it's just that; an opinion.

To discover and come to know my higher self. The ghost in the machine. Purpose will naturally flow from that.

Of course, I respect your right to have your own opinion. However, the Truth is the Truth no matter what your opinion. I hope you find what you are looking for someday. Without God there is no hope.

But there is always God.

Just because someone may not believe does not cast away hope.

God is above all else, and is merciful and loving even of those who do not believe.

Why would God place us into this world with purposeful amnesia of him?

No, I believe that God loves all of us and holds a place for all of us.
