upper middle class lifestyle?
what's the obsession with living an upper middle class "lifestyle", and what does that mean anyway?

Club membership, travel, assisted living instead of nursing home

If unmarried, around $4 million. If married, $6-7M or so.

I mean more as investing and consulting startups when I say continuing to work, not clocking in every day

$10 Million is the beginning of wealthy and freedom
Less than that and you are working to manage and protect

The vast majority of people will never clear 10MM in their career yet will survive fine for 30 years.

Has anyone said a powerball ticket yet? If not, than I have the winning one for this week and that's totally my goal.
Gonna put a couple cartons of Basics on the card while I'm there too.

don't agree, in some circles ten mil doesn't pay the light bill, and it's kind of a nouveau riche mind set that believes that once you retire that you'll start living like a rock star, keep your expenses under control, service the debt, retire debt free, or at a minimum, and keep doing what has made you happy over the years
BTW: we might have lived in the same house at different times over the years

Some of these responses have me thinking they have no clue about investing, and no reality on what the average person makes. I mean, less than 1% of the population will ever see 10m in the bank

Luckily me and the wife agree to live while we can and not live for 55. I'd hate to miss the middle 25 years of my life scratching together. If I have to work to 60 or 65 it will be worth it to experience some of the things I have.

rule of thumb is 20x your expenses.

shite, I'm not even talking about in the bank. Just to net 10MM you have to be making near 500k a year (if my math is close). Keep that up for 30 years and you will be close to netting 10MM.

pretty much the way I've approached it, in some ways I have lived like a rock star, and as I'm approaching the end of my career, or at least this one, I've got no regrets and don't really foresee a big change in lifestyle

It may be due to the age of the posters. Everyone thinks they will retire with millions when they are younger. Once you get into a career and life catches up you realize it isn't that easy or necessary.
