Worked a bathroom job once. Guy the day before didn't wipe off the excess. Dried up. It was like pulling teeth to chip it off. Bought some muriatic acid. Cut it with water in a spray bottle. Situated a palm sander with one of those green dish scrubbies on it. Worked like a champ.

was it chiseled edge tile how do I not damage the chisel edges

If it was a tile job I did in the last 10 years you aren't getting that grout out easily. If the installer used epoxy grout it will make the job 10x harder. But if they used epoxy grout you probably aren't wanting to remove it anyway since it resist stains, mold, etc.
I'd probably retile a whole shower before I took on the task of removing the grout.
