A friend of mine's mom worked for them in scouting new locations. She said that IKEA has to buy property through shell companies because every time they would show interest in property, prices would shoot up. You won't know an IKEA is coming until the property is purchased. She also said crime rate and education are huge issues for them in adding new locations (not so much for the older ones).
