I don't agree with the criticism of the media. The war had been going on for four or five years before Tet and the intelligent people that cared had started to figure out what you same guys are complaining about, that the U.S. government was not fighting the war to win it.
They were correct and exercising their rights as Americans to try to point that out. Why keep sending American boys over there to die if we aren't trying to win?
We lost 11,600 men in 1969, the year after Tet. They may have been down after Tet but obviously capable of continuing a defensive strategy as long as we were going to continue to use our soldiers as pawns so the rich could sleep a little better at night knowing the boggie man communism wasn't going to take over Indo china.
Which it did eventually anyway, leading to what?
Nothing as far as Americans are concerned.
That is what we fight for isn't it? American interests.

In 1966 we knew every thing coming from Hanoi was coming down Route 1. Bomb Hanoi and Route 1., end the war. If you read any book especially from General Giap, written from N V Generals they will say so.

namvet, I'm of the opinion that, because Linebacker II forced NV to the peace table in 1973, those same methods might have been able to work in 1966.

Possibly, but LBJ didn't have the guts to order it.
