Maybe an ignorant question, but why do hotels and hospitals need to change schedules every six months?

EST = Eastern Standard Time
CST = Central Standard Time

Putting the western panhandle on EST will automatically get us “extra” sunlight in the afternoon when on standard time.

At my house, the sun will set at 4:45pm CST if all things remain the same.

Put us on EST and the sun will set at 5:45pm

Easy peasy.

You do realize they can’t just put the panhandle of Florida as part of the eastern time zone, they would have to include the states above Florida like Alabama and Tennessee.

Huh?

Go look at a time zone map. This sort of inconsistency exists across the whole country. These lines are drawn by politicians and map makers, they are not absolute north-south parallels.

You do realize the Eastern time zone is around Tallahassee right, that a significant chunk of time between Tallahassee and Pensacola.

If they run the eastern time zone to Pensacola they would have to put the entire state of Alabama in the Eastern time zone..

I don't like the president declaring DST. Arizona doesn't participate in DST so it isn't mandatory or anything. I would prefer this to be a states rights issue rather than the feds taking over.

Great idea. How will we grow crops without that extra hour of daylight?

I hope this is satire.

I'm in favor of adjusting it 30 minutes and just leaving it there

depends on where you are in your time zone

I saw a map of it once showing what areas are not well fitted to the current set up but I have no idea what to search to see it.

For example, Alabama could get by bumping up an hour and being in the Eastern time zone without it being dark at 8 AM.

Again, go look at a time zone map.

There are a LOT of places where the time zone is inconsistent from a north / south standpoint. It's relatively arbitrary. In fact, go look at the world time zone map and you'll see a lot more egregious issues than whether or not Alabama is in the same timezone as the panhandle of Florida.

Sorry my man, you’re still not going to convince me that the Florida pan handle should be in the Eastern time zone.

Besides, the eastern time zone sucks….

I mean the late news is on at 11pm..

Maybe you should go back and reread the earlier comments then. I don’t really care if the panhandle of Florida is in the eastern time zone or not, I was just pointing out that if that change were to happen, you don’t also have to change it for other states north of it.

The New England states should absolutely be in Atlantic time zone.
