Wilson was a much bigger town in the early 20th century. Not sure if you have ever been there but there is a really big open field across from the "town hall". That was where a train 'turnaround' was. Now even the train tracks are gone as well.

Don't know of any plantations in or very close to town. There are a few a few miles out. If I knew who your mom worked for I would have a better idea of which one you are talking about.

Btw, the house I was raised in was built in the 1850's. My mom is still there. Only a few old white people left. Drug dealer next door to her but she refuses to leave. Shots fired on occasion. Says that is home and that is where she'll die.
