Start with Stephen Ambrose. Absolutely masterful and riveting writing.
D-Day, while obviously later in the war is the book that got me hooked.
Citizen Soldiers picks up where that ends. After those two I was trying to find whatever I could from him and they were all great.
Pegasus Bridge
The Wild Blue
The Victors
(all WWII books because I love WWII)
And the guy was a Badger, so all good in my book (see what I did there?)

I second this. Fantastic book. After I got through all of the Ambrose books on the European theater I switched over to the West.

Trying to remember some of the others...lots of great island hopping books.
