Can we get a thread going on how to help... Where to bring supplies, what is needed... What can people from out of town do to help from a labor perspective. I want to help and so do many others that don't necessarily have strong connections to the area other than being a few hours away. I know some folks in logistics and can probably also secure some funding to haul in whatever is needed. Just need some info and an idea on where to start. Prayers only go so far. Actions are louder than words. I know this is going to be a shiteshow for a while but when and where can outside help begin.
Peace and Godspeed.

Tbh, have a plan beforehand before you head anywhere. As in, bring your goods to somewhere designated outside the area if you can. The amount of people just driving around right now is absurd. I would guess less than 20% of the people on the road actually need to be on the road.
Its a good gesture to want to help, but unless youre bringing some massive truckload of goods, I think you would be more of a detriment than of help.
Sorry if the post sounds negative

I get it for sure but I'm talking about bringing 3 guys with a horse trailer full of supplies as well as getting an 18 wheeler loaded. I have a contact that has no kids is 80 years old and does nothing but help people out as long as they are hard working. My friend from college went through a rough time and he hired him on to take care of his horses. I went to talk to him the other day about securing a job in medical sales. He has made a fortune from patents and sales management with bristol myers, smith and nephew, and Medtronic.
All he does these days is philanthropy. He is a good Christian man and while I was talking to him, he took a phone call to find a construction job for a guy that was out on the street trying to take care of 13 year old kid.
There are plenty of people like him that want to help and have the financial means to do so but don't want to do some bull crap like write a check to red cross.

I'm not trying to drive down to the middle of the shite and get in the way... That is the type of stuff for the Cajun Navy. First responders, and linemen. I was thinking about maybe doing something like the operation BBQ and helping out with any other way I can. I know gas, generators, water, chainsaws, gloves, Basic living items are needed. I haven't done anything in my life but it is my time to do so. 1994 ice storm in Mississippi Delta I was a child and my father emptied our freezer cooking for all the linemen. I remember seeing the joy on their faces as we provided them with a good home cooked meal.
I feel like now it is my time to give back. So whatever I and others can do from afar without interference in cleanup
... Any information to help should be shared.

Wife and I talked about it tonight. If anyone needs anything we would love to help. Only in Louisiana do you have so many people trying to help but get turned away because so many others are trying to help. The world needs more Louisiana people. #Louisianaproud

I would like to help as well but I saw some interviews with mayors for Gulfport and Lafitte, ( I think) who asked well meaning volunteers to stay away unless they were coordinating with FEMA, power companies, local disaster teams etc. They mentioned the number of people out driving around cause traffic problems then many coming to bring supplies don’t realize there is no food, gas or hotels, and end up having to be rescued themselves. I want to help as well, but we need to be very careful that we don’t get in the way or worse, become a burden.

I have a family member who could use some help tarping their roof in BR and getting furniture out the house. I can't get to them right now but if anyone is available and willing please let me know
