Marinello killed his estranged wife, Mary Elizabeth Marinello, in August of 2006, less then a year after Hurricane Katrina.
This is a news organization website?

Was he still on the air when he committed murder?
Yes. I think when the murder happened, he "left town" and I don't remember him ever going back on the air during the investigation, and certainly not after he was arrested.
He did the night show (8 pm to midnight maybe, it was after SportsTalk) with Bob Mitchell. I remember listening to that show the day he was arrested. Bob started off with a monologue that basically said, I love you brother, I hope you didn't do this, but if you did, I hope you rot in jail.
It was also the first, and maybe only time, "FEMA Trailer" was such a widely used term in a criminal proceeding. It really was a sign of the times. A lot of people just snapped the first year after Katrina, and he was one of them, I believe. The way he wrote a list is not the markings of a sane person.

Prison leaders says Marinello's passing was from natural expected death.

I used to run his show on the radio. I won't miss him, or Buddy D.
