I know I've mentioned before that one of my great uncles flew B-17's with the 385th Bomb Group, Great Ashfield, Suffolk. He did his 35 missions and made it home. Flew two missions on D-Day.
If you want to read a really good book about the 8th Air Force, I would recommend "The Wrong Stuff" by Truman Smith. He was also a pilot in the 385th and his book is one of the best.
