Campbell County is an example of bitchiness vs. logic.

To be fair, urban planners sometimes forget that polities have as much to do with bitchiness as they do with logic, to the detriment of people who have to live there.

They think they can organize geographic boundaries with nothing more than logic, but people’s civic pride counts just as much. If Newport is the center of business of the county, you’ve got to give them something in return.

Why are Arkansas and Mississippi represented so much?

They had counties with natural obstacles obstructing the path to one county seat, so instead of splitting the county in two, they just gave one county two seats.
and two bamas. Do other states not have natural barriers?

Combination of states with natural barriers and lack of solid funding from state governments to build passable roads.

Also, dual seats may have been more common centuries ago, but over time many county governments may have collapsed the split county-seats into one county seat (most likely located in the county’s most populous city).

The ones listed may just be the only ones that haven’t changed yet.

Correct, but Enterprise and Elba both have a County Courthouse.

Fair point. Newport is indeed the civic and business driver for the county. You should be a civics teacher.
