Had an 8 year old relative become unarousable from sleep. Brought to ER. Blood glucose was 600+. Apparently the glucose was brought down “too quickly” and caused the brain to swell and push down into the foreamen. Poor child passed after a hard struggle.

This is what I was thinking when I read the post. Young kids with new onset diabetes presenting with DKA are at significant risk of cerebral edema...especially if the treating physician isn’t used to managing kids with this disease process.
I hope the doctor involved got sued for malpractice and had his face smashed by the father of the child.
