It took me 7 months to find a (good) job after being laid off in March of 2023. 7 months! Not to toot my own horn but my resume is pretty damn good too.

The last 4 months of that time probably took 7 years off my life.

My buddy is a union truck driver in California, not long haul... home every night with his family. A guy he works with just retired at age 50. He will be getting $10K a month for his pension for the rest of his life, not to mention social security and the guy made some decent investments. Retired at 50! Living good. No college degree. No debt.

WTF. shite made me question my life choices when I heard this.

Not really, there was recently a plumbing apprenticeship position that had over 300 applicants. My company is starting to slow down. Again, it's not nearly as bad as the white collar market but it won't solve someone's employment problems.
