It seemed like the protesters were simply going to be able to wait them out. The govt must have figured out that the longer this goes on the worse it is for them. They probably think they need to act before they lose the upper hand.

Getting back to the USSR is Putin’s ultimate dream. He was the head of the KGB he loved the days of the cold war. I'm sure he would love to pull Ukraine back under the Russian banner as well. If this plays out in the governments favor and they fall in line with Russia, I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the near future Russia would make a play to absorb a faltering Ukraine. Russia has had a hand in all the woes of their former satellites.

I mean I’ll give our clandestine operations their credit they have tried to topple some governments in the past. But I really don't think they are good enough to spin up 300,000+ random citizens out of the blue. This isn’t backing some opposition war lord these are Ukrainian citizens.
