Not to be crass, but it was probably alcohol and a combination of bad decisions.

If they ban alcohol, Tiki Tubing will be forced to shut its doors. I don't remember the exact details of the last few incidents, but I want to say just about every incident in recent memory was alcohol related.

My friend's incident was. People forget that a couple of bad decisions can kill you.

It can be useful in that you could learn that the proper spelling for the depth of the water is waist deep. ( not waste)

Fwiw, they usually put the information on lockdown when stuff like this happens, so they can inform the families (if needed) before everyone starts talking about it.

Is the river that deep? I've been before and it was waist deep in some spots.

No, but after rains it makes for a quick current which pushes people under fallen trees and they get lodged there by the current. I pulled my girlfriend in college out from under one by her hair with the help of a friend.

Even when the water is not very high, there are some deep holes in the Amite. Several people have drowned there over the years. Sadly, today will not be the last time. Prayers sent to families and friends of thoses lost today.

Not sure they have found them, probably withholding names for a while.

Thx for giving the genius a little bit of an education. Many threads are started with very little info. We gather and post it as we go and sometimes have details before news outlets.

Deductive reasoning with that pic might say that there is an AA victim.

Not to sound racist, but I legitimately had no idea that there were many black Tiki Tubing patrons. I expected the victims to be some white Livingston Parish residents.

sad to hear this. I have only been tubing once out there and a couple hundred yards from the end, my suit got hooked on a branch and the current was pretty strong at that point. I was really struggling and the water level was just high enough that I could barely stick my head up for a breath between attempts to dislodge myself. Fortunately I am strong enough to have gotten unhooked but I could definitely see the possibility of something like that happening, especially after a good rain. terrible news to hear this story.
