Two people face charges after elderly Calhoun man beaten

CALHOUN, La. (KNOE) - Two people face charges after an elderly Calhoun man was beaten in his home.

According to arrest warrant affidavits, the attack happened on Dec. 3, 2019, at a home in the 900 block of Golson Road in Calhoun.

Records state that the victim's niece and live-in caregiver, identified as 54-year-old Mary Beth Pitard, and her boyfriend, identified as 24-year-old Konlan Krodel, had been staying in the home at the time.

According to Ouachita Parish Sheriff's deputies, Krodel got into an argument with the 75-year-old victim and the victim demanded Krodel take his belongings and leave.

Instead, an affidavit states, Krodel is accused of kicking the victim the neck, knocking him to the ground. Records allege that Krodel then hit the victim multiple times in the face and kicked him in his side. The attack left the victim with bruising, swelling, and multiple fractures.

The victim would later tell investigators that Pitard was present for the attack and yelled at Krodel to stop, but she did not intervene. The victim told investigators that he was in great pain and Pitard did not seek medical treatment for him after the attack. Another person arrived sometime later and took the victim to the hospital for treatment. Deputies say the victim was initially unable to clearly communicate due to injury or overmedication.
