Has anybody every bought a tux online? They have some good deals but I'd imagine they are shite for quality.

I purchased a slightly used one from the shop that I had been renting from for years. Should have done that a long time ago.
As I've gotten older the events where a tux is needed pop up a lot more often.

I bought one back in High School. I was going to wear it to a couple of Proms, and they had this beauty pageant at the school and Senior Guys were the ones that walked the girls out onto the stage, so I had to wear it for that as well. Cheaper than renting one 3 different times. And I wore it to a few sorority formals in college as well. I outgrew it though. But with weddings, if you're in the wedding party you'll need to wear the matching one that all the groomsmen have to rent. I've been in about a half dozen weddings and each one was different. Different shirt/vest/tie combos, and the actual Tux was a little different in each one. So if you're buying it thinking you'd get to wear it if you're in a wedding, other than your own, I'd say just wear a suit to this wedding.

Tux? Frick, until last week I hadn't bought a suit in 16 years. Had two weddings coming up so I dug out the old suit and it had holes in it. Was forced to buy one more eternal suit. Brooks Brothers, of course.

Hmm, here is what I think I will do:

Wear a suit to this event, then buy a Tux sometime in the next year when I find the deal I like

If you live where mardi gras is a big deal then you might as well buy one. Easy just to buy classic black then add tails, white dinner jacket, mardi gras tie/cumberbun, etc. If not then rent and tell your friends not to ask you to be in their weddings...

When I was in high school, I bought the $99 special at Barrys Better Menswear. Wore it to Proms, a couple of Mardi Gras balls, a couple of Sorority formals with my future wife.

It more than paid for itself.

I've contemplated it since I have been in 2 weddings since graduating and about to be in 2 more, but everyone will have a different style/vest/etc so I didn't see the point. I don't go to enough functions to warrant owning a tux.

This is how you should handle all weddings that you must stand in/attend:

1. Avoid at all costs
2. If you can't avoid - get all the groomsmen/group of buddies together. When JOS A BANKS has a buy 1 get 3 free, you all go in together. Split cost of the one suit and each get to keep own suit/tux.

Anyone who doesn't do this is just plain silly.

You talk to the manager of a JoABanks and they will make a deal with you. Buddy of mine did this, and we all got damn good looking suits for around $150.
