I met her family when I was in The Philippines working.
Yes, the human trafficking part is what scares me.

Many of them live here, work, send money back home. I guess you can live like a king for very little over there. We've got a big Filipino community here.

I know that sounds bad, but smart Filipino's can have better opportunities working office jobs in the middle east than working as a maid.

All the maids here are Filipino and they make around $500 / month or less. If they're lucky they have their own cable and aren't forced to work 15 hour days.

They are offering a contract, but does it really mean anything, if something happens to her, before she got to the job? In that situation, a contract wouldn't mean shite.

She should probably just go for it. It's North America, not the middle east.

Get the authorities involved. Sounds like a trap for underground sex trade. Seriously, everything about that is fishy as frick.

That is my feeling about it as well, just wondered if I was overreacting.
I have already warned her about what I thought, but was hoping for it to turn out well for her sake.
I figure that something might happen to her once she gets into Canada, and before she reaches Toronto. Then she might end up vanished.

If he's hiring her without an agency, there are certain legal hoops he must jump through to sponsor her visa. Check out the type that she is getting and make sure it's a legitimate working visa in Canada, and not some tourist visa. If it's the former, she will have legal rights, but if it's the latter it sounds a lot like a scam and there are many Filipinos sold into slavery in Asia and the Middle East this way.

Yeah, because there's NO human trafficking in North America, right?

Your options in North America are much better if you get in a bad situation.

A bad situation? That's when your car breaks down on the interstate, the tow truck driver only accepts cash, and all you have is plastic.
What happens to some girls ( and in much rarer cases, young boys as well) goes far beyond a bad situation. It happens all the time, even in The U.S.
Options, is a very hopeful word, implying that the situation is not beyond our comprehension of human depravity.

I live in Malaysia. Made me realize how good we Amerifcans have it. You think its bad for Philipinos, try being Burmese - or a Bangla. All those pretty buildings in Dubai? Built by modern day slaves

A good rule of thumb in dealing with any situation is that if someone asks for money up-front, it's a scam. How did she find this job? Did she go out looking for it or was it unsolicited? Usually anything unsolicited is going to be a scam.

The person hiring her is supposed to be paying her to come work for him. If there's some type of license involved or whatever bullshite they're trying coming up with, wouldn't you think the employer would cover that?

Also, some countries require that you be in-country to get a work visa but there are ways around it if you pay someone. If they're using that as an excuse, tell her to tell them that she'll travel there as a tourist (US citizens don't need a visa for anything less than 30 days) and she'll get the work visa herself.

As far as plane tickets, etc. she can buy that herself. Someone trying to scam her would come up with some reason why she should send them money for the travel expenses and if she questions it they'll just move on to the next mark. They're not going to drag it on by letting her buy the tickets, etc. herself because there's no way for them to profit.

Here we are comparing this to a scam, this is not a scam. She could never fall for a scam, because she would never have any money to send.
The agenda is much more involved, and certain people consider a girl like her to be currency.
She wants a better life, and predators are out there using that as bait. She wants to help her Mother. For us, it seems like a cheap place to live, because our pay comes from a different economy, if you earn your living there,it's not so easy.
It makes me feel like a grinch, just to tell her what I suspect on this thing, but Her Father was my friend, and he died about 3 years ago.Philippines is poor, but not as bad as some other places or things.
If anybody has info on this type of stuff, post it please.

Damn man. It's written all over the walls. You did your research and found nothing that even remotely verified the persons identity. Tell her she shouldn't go and be done with it.

Sex traffickers normally don't target women from the US, I'm sure Canada falls into that category as well. Most of the girls sold into sex slavery in Asia are from Russia and Eastern Europe. They're offered jobs as hairstylists in Asia and when they get there they're forced into slavery.

If the guy is trying to do this with an American (or Canadian) woman, he's got to be a fricking idiot.

Ok, you never read the original post.
I am bad about not reading all replies, but I always read the original post... Incredibly, that makes you the most off topic person on Off topic lounge...Congratulations if you were aiming for that.

I will add this... Being a Filipino maid in North America beats the hell out of being a Filipino maid in the Middle East. The Filipino economy must be horrendous.

I've had with a lot of Filipino welders work for me. I think they are the only minority who idolizes white people. I jokingly asked a few of them "if I came to the Philippines, would I get murdered?" He said that most Filipinos think really high of white people.
