thanks all for the replies - it's more like a loud high pitched whine of the engine, which basically sounds like it's revving high (like when it would be about to shift gears), but it shifts and still have higher pitched whine of engine noise. RPMs are only like 1.5 at 45 mph, so it's def shifting but it's just a loud whine, I guess is what I'm trying to describe.

Smart move.... they go out all the time and are expensive as frick to fix if it's not under warranty.

2016 Taco here. Mine automatically downshifts when going down hill. Not all the time, but on certain hills it happens.
