Well thats just an awful idea since the radiator fan is designed to pull air thru the coils to cool the water. With the hood popped you circumvent this process to some extent. And allow some air flow to bypass the radiator.

Simpy brilliant.

Not really. There should always be a fan shroud which makes sure the fan pulls air in from the outside. Although I probably wouldn't worry about popping the hood anyway. On flatish ground at very low speeds a Toyota Celica could probably tow that float. What the OP needs to be concerned about is the tongue weight.
