Just FYI Antwerp is in the Flemish area of the country, so its culture is a good deal different than Brussels, more dutch than french.

I wouldn't plan on spending more than 1-2 days there, but it is worth the visit.

I'm well aware that Antwerp is part Flanders; which if you'll read is a big reason for me wanting to go there.

I'm a bit of a polyglot and linguaphile, so different regional varieties, slang, accents and dialects of languages fascinate me. In this case the distinction between Nederlands and Vlaams.

As I live in Amsterdam and already speak a fair amount of Dutch (with a heavy Noord-Holland accent, think of summoning up all your phlegm with those hard "Gs"), I wanted to see how I would get by in Flanders. If , for example, the people are less of assholes than the Dutch when you attempt to speak their language, haha...
