And I suspect we're making an apples/oranges comparison. I retired almost 30 years ago.
And from a retired old fart, thanks to you and the others who have posted in this thread for your service.

Possibly...Picking up E-8 in under 15 years is a common thing in my rate..I agree though, that the next 5 could lead to nothing

I made E-8 at about the 17 1/2 year point. Back in my era you had to wear the stripe 2 years to keep it. I obviously don't know if that's still the case today.

Officer or Enlisted..?
Posted on 11/6/14 at 12:18 pm to GrammarKnotsi
Enlisted. My choices are
1. Contracting
2. ATC
3. Airborne Intel
4. Network Intel
5. Nuke
6. Public Affairs
7. Comptroller
At the moment

Network Intel or Nuke will probably make you the most money when you get out. I'd still go officer though if I were you.

Why would someone with a college degree, who turned down West Point, go enlisted....

There is now way I am getting officer with a 3.1 GPA right now.

So try anyway. The worst thing that happens is that they tell you no thanks, try enlisted side.

I don't know what that is..But if I had the background you say you have, I would NEVER just enlist...
