I have carpet in the office, the tiles are the atrium outside my office. Not too bad mostly use email anyway.

My cubicle isn't that bad. It's like a mini office outside in the center area of my boss's office. I have a cubiclemate who surfs the web but gets PISSED if she sees me on the OT. Like try to only post from my phone....can you decorate at all?

It is actually a pretty old thing, cubicles were first marketed in 1967 as a way to give workers some sense of privacy, pretty much the opposite of how they are viewed today. Until the cubicle arrived workers usually worked in large spaces that were filled with row after row of desks which in the worst case were arranged back to back having you looking at a co-worker who's desk faced yours all day.
