For those who work shift work, how do you come off nights?

I've been on shift for 2 years now, and I can't come off nights for shite. When I get home I try to take a 3-5 hour nap before waking up to enjoy my "off day". So, by 8-9pm I'm absolutely exhausted. I feel like I could sleep forever. However, I'm up by 1 am, and I'll be up for the rest of the day.

Dark room, cold, fan, sound machine.... I use all this shite. Only thing I've held off on is sleeping meds.

What works for you guys?

I worked 30+ years on shift. I would come home, sleep until 10 or 11. I'd get a lull around 5 and take a short catnap on the couch. That would get me to the 10 PM news and to bed. But everyone I knew had their own process. Keep experimenting.

I take a 3-4 hour nap that morning of my first day off. Go to bed 11-12 that night. Wake up 6-7 am next day and I'm on a day schedule the rest of my days off.

This might be my problem. I'm 5-5 shift wise. So staying up from 10am to 11pm is gonna be almost impossible, but I think I'm just gonna have to drive myself to exhaustion. Cause this ain't working.
