There are a lot of opinions and a lot negative to anything that isn't a top tier MBA program.

All I can say is that I received my MBA from LSU and was hired off of campus from a company that never would have hired me if not for my MBA. I may very well be the exception, but it worked out well for me.

My $0.02;

MBA's are only good if they come from a "big name" school. Harvard, Rice, Yale, Stanford. Those degrees will open doors. It's a good ol boys club when you get an MBA from those types of universities .

I was looking at the Online MBA program with Mississippi State.

It did wonders for me, and I thought State's program was great - but I was in my mid 30s when I started it.

MBAs do not only have to be from a "big" name school. Of course, University of Phoenix isn't great either. MBAs, like any other post-grad degree/certification, are resume differentiators. So if your resume is compared to a non-MBA resume, you'll probably get a call.

The problem with getting an MBA today is people getting it for the wrong reason. People get it (and pay $$$) so they can potentially make more money quicker without having to earn it. People aren't going for the experiences to learn to be better managers. Thus, every mom and pop college offers an MBA.

I too agree you should only get an MBA after working 6+ years or started your own business recently. Hate seeing 23 year olds in MBA classes; they add no experience-value; only theories on how they would solve crisis/problems

I've got one and I'm incredible. I'll let you decide how much correlation there is.
