Thanks for reminding me to start a "Teachers summer is here" thread at the end of May. I'll send you pics from the beach. Enjoy your cubicle
No thanks on the Biloxi beach pictures.

What gets me is the ones who complain the most are just teachers. You never hear of any coaches, who work a lot more than regular teachers, complaining. My dad has been in education for 30+ years, the last 20 in administration AND coaching, and I've seriously never once heard him complain about the time he puts in. And he hasn't had a summer off in as long as I can remember.

I taught for six years.
End of the year tired = I'm sick of the students I've had for the last 9 months.
Imagine you're working in your office job and your keyboard keys pop out onto the floor all the time. Random times. During break time. During crunch time. Your keyboard just fricks up and doesn't work EVERY day, at some point in the day.
Now imagine that after 9 months of it, you're told you're going to get a break from that keyboard. It's going to be replaced. You're also going to get a vacation to rejuvenate from the last keyboard.

That's because the complaining teachers who coach quit coaching once they hit tenure.

Bingo. It is pretty simple, not all teaching situations are created equal. A teacher in a really nice suburban public school or private school usually isn't in a position to complain; they have no idea how easy they have it. Now a teacher at a school that consistently has a, let's say "troublesome," population, now that can be a tougher job than most other jobs out there. Even if it is only for 9 months out of the year.
(I say this as someone that used to teach, in both terrific schools and in ones that were a complete mess.)
