re: There can't be many things worse than standing in line to pay after euthanizing your dog

My vet scheduled the euthanasia and made sure there were no other clients there. Him and his vet tech were extremely kind and caring and talked to us on what to expect and how to prepare for it. He billed us later so we did not pay that day. That was a good experience for such a terrible feeling and we are loyal to him for it. What you experienced sounds awful.

He figured he had taken care of those animals since they were puppies/kittens that was inhuman to profit off their owners grief at such a time.
Do funerals charge for their services? Human doctors?
I have never understood why the expectation is that vets should basically give services away for free. Its one of the only industries where guilt trips like this one above are used.
Its a business at the end of the day. But no vet wants to do euthanasias or make large profits off of them.

And one of the reasons the suicide rate for veterinarians is so high.

With out last dog, we had called in advance for the vet to come to the house and do the deed. As it worked out she couldn't because of some other stuff going on at the office. Once we got there we were shown back to the room. We had to pay in advance(totally get that part)...but what rubbed me the wrong way was they started adding on "extras" while my dog is laying there writhing in pain. Did we want a special vase for the ashes, did we want her cremated alone or just thrown in with the other animals being destroyed. Anyway, we paid and they did the deed. I will that they did have a special room in the back that had an exit to the back parking lot so you don't have to walk out through the lobby when it's over. Overall 6/10. We've switched vets since then. Indications are the new guy isn't the nickel and dime upsell kind of guy...but I guess we'll see once we have to put the next one down.
