quote:Problem is young families aren't moving into the area. I grew up in Chateau and my parents still live there and it is all old people in the neighborhood. Most of the surrounding neighborhoods are low income and I think things will continue to go downhill unfortunately.
The area by Chateau is still good as are the neighborhoods by the lake.

That's certainly true that most of the families are either moving into New Orleans or--if they can't afford it--moving to St. Tammany.

That has nothing to do with the mall being empty. The major problem to it is that there's nothing worth going in there for. Nothing new or exciting at all. I worked at the GameStop in there before they left (because of the one that opened on Chateau) and that was right after Katrina. It was doing well enough but go in there and look, there's nothing new. Target and the new movie theater brought back some business but really, what's in there to shop? American Eagle, Old Navy?
You want to bring business back, put a Nike store in there, H&M, stuff Lakeside doesn't have AND stuff that people actually want. It's all women's clothes and ghetto stores that even people in the ghetto don't want.
