Around Chicago area, the hearse leads the procession from the funeral home to the cemetery, and all the cars from the funeral home follow. Every car gets a flag and sign for the window, and are told to put their lights on, and the whole line blows through the red lights. The lead hearse stops for red lights - but if it turns red for the followup cars, they go through.
Other cars stop at the intersection to let the procession pass, but really no outward show of respect, like getting out and bowing, taking off the hat or anything.
Sounds like a nice tradition of respect. I thought you'd be talking about the NOLA Jazz Funerals, which I think are great.
Of course, funerals IN Chicago in certain neighborhoods are accompanied by a drive by shooting. Different culture for sure.

Reminds me of a Jerry Clower joke. Two men on a sidewalk face the procession, take off their hats. One asked the other Who Died? Other guy says The one in the first car. Love and miss Clower.
