I didn't enjoy garrison all that much.

Wish l could have had another deployment under my belt before I decided to get out of active duty

Your definition is wrong. Just look up what a veteran is according to the VA. That is the real definition of a veteran.

quote:

FEDERAL DEFINITION: under Federal Law a VETERAN is any person, who served honorably on active duty in the armed forces of the United States. (Discharges marked GENERAL AND UNDER HONORABLE CONDITIONS also qualify.)

You have to have or see Active Duty time outside Initial Entry Training to qualify as a Veteran. You can do 20 years in the National Guard and never get a VA account unless you mobilize, deploy, get put on Title 10 orders for a rotation, etc.

Straight from the VA benefit page:

What is the difference between serving as a Traditional National Guard or Reserve member

Most all that fulfill their 20 years qualify at the end, but many people that sign up for 4, only do drill and summer camp do not federally register.

I don't fully agree with it, just stating the facts.

That's just for veteran benefits through the government. It has nothing to do with being called a veteran.
