Thinking of taking the kids to parades, but don't want to deal with the NOLA crowds, traffic, etc. Never been to the parades in Lafayette. How are the Tuesday parades in Lafayette? Worth the drive from BR?

Not sure what your expectation is. Lafayette relatively harmless and calm. If you want extreme, go to Houma.

They are pretty family friendly. Just get their early to find a parking spot.
