True for the statues. Now we can gripe. But what about before they were gone. Only Lee still stands, and I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for his long term survival in the present place he stands.

A truly Animal House gesture of defiant futility would be if Lee Statue supporters all gathered at the Circle and blew the whole thing up. To smithereens. And before Mitch and his gang could lay a hand on it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the black memorials around the city started getting vandalized/broken.

You know who did. Abraham Lincoln.

I love when those ignorant fricks say this.

I'm sorry you failed high school history class.

PGT was basically a civil rights advocate after the war.

Lincoln's record is near unassailable & to compare him with this little nothing midget is laughable.

1) Lincoln's 1st Bill as a Congressman was to abolish slavery in D.C.

2)Lincoln ran as the 1st Candidate of the new anti slavery party( GOP).

3)Lincoln caused snowflake Southerners to secede before he even ttook office because they knew his real views on slavery

4) Lincoln aolished slavery in D.C. 1862

5)Lincoln issued Emancipation Proclamation

6)Lincoln allowed nearly 200,000 Blacks to serve in the Union Army & fight against White Supremacy

7)Lincoln Fought for & signed the 13th Amendment

8)Lincoln called for voting Rights 100 years before the Voting Rights Act..........

I'm probably selling Lincoln a little short plus who knows what else he would have done...........

But the midget PGT Beauregard gave some obscure interview about racial unity ?

Years after he fought to maintain slavery & chose to fight a 4 year war causing the deaths & suffering Americans both Black & White.

Neo Conferderate revisionist are pathetic.

That's a great idea. Maybe we should have a vote of whether to take down the monuments before they can be removed.

I am sure you support the bill in LA legislature that advocates exactly that, no?

I'm quite sure there were votes to put up these monuments by the " Lost Cause " officials in New Orleans ?

You're absolutely wrong btw. Bill only applies to military monuments.

I can attest to this. I was in NOLA for a Culcha Conference last week and driving past the MLK Bust made me fear for my whiteness. It needs to come down!

It is a structure. You didn't read the whole bill.

quote:

organization, or military unit shall be altered, removed, relocated, destroyed, rededicated, or renamed.

3 B. Notwithstanding Subsection A of this Section, the state agency or political subdivision responsible for maintaining any such memorial may take actions it deems necessary for the protection, preservation, care, repair, or restoration of a memorial.

7 C. Notwithstanding Subsection A of this Section, a parish or municipal governing authority may take an action otherwise prohibited by Subsection A if a proposition authorizing the action has been approved by a majority of the voters who vote on the proposition at an election held for that purpose. A parish or municipal governing authority may call an election for the purpose of submitting such a proposition to its voters.

There would be no state election, and the city/state (LSU) can renovate as needed.

Do you need me to link the bill again?

I don't see renovation listed in the bill. But I agree, they can maintain it or paint it without a vote

They will continue to leave and take their businesses with them too. I grew up in New Orleans, and my parents and siblings are all in Texas now. We are all high wage earners and business owners.

Mitch is gone. The council keeps getting reelected despite shite way worse than this.

They keep getting re-elected because of an abnormally large population of ignorant people keep voting for incredibly dumb politicians.

Yall need to get over this BS. I get both sides of the argument. Probably even lean towards keeping them up, but I'm not going to let it bother me. It has absolutely zero impact on my life.

Worry about things that matter. How will you get that new promotion? What can you do to get your kids math grade up? What can you do for your neighbor who just lost their husband to cancer.

In the grand scheme of things, this is petty shite. Does not matter. History isn't being erased. They aren't removing everything that is tied to slavery. 20 years from now you're not going to be crying because you miss the statue of General Lee that was so high up you couldn't even see it anyway. You might regret that you spent more time crying about petty shite on the internet and less time bettering you're own life.

I seriously do not believe that this place deserves a history. It deserves the unremarkable truck stop culture that they so aspire to be... a place to get drunk, throw up and piss on the streets, and eat Dave and busters food. That's much more their speed.

I'm seriously done with the lot of them. NOLA is fast on its way to becoming an unforgettable last stop watering hole, and one you have to duck and cover in order to get there since they care more about ridding the city of historical monuments than they do in dealing with the crime and killings eating it alive. That seems to be the only thing they think deserves preserving.

New Orleans lost 3 statues in the last month, yet it still has 10,000x more history than where ever it is that you call home. At least. It's unfortunate that our mayor is a fascist, but our history isn't dependent on three statues.

Dave and Busters food..... my god, you're fricking dumb.

No one is going to miss you around here.
