It sounds like even liberal as all get out NYC didn't allow it, so perhaps the slope wasn't as slippery as you suggested.
Go look at how long it took seatbelt regulation to go through

You think your insurance company or the other persons insurance company has unlimited liability?
No, but there's a difference in costs when it's a couple broken ribs & and a broken nose VS. thrown from a car and paralyzed.

So you think thats it? They will try and pass that law once and its over?
It's all we have for now. Your argument basically boils down to "I'll be right eventually" so any argument made against me is wrong.

The seatbelt law was first passed in 1983
I think the slippery slope of govt overreach has been full throttle already since then...
I just think obesity and diabetes is the next tactic they will use in regards to bans on fatty and sugary foods
They have already told the people that smoke is bad so they have forced places to not allow smoking in most places

If there is one thing Louisiana does do right, it's requiring motorcycle riders to wear helmets
I think drivers and passengers should be forced to wear helmets in cars too. It is a lot safer than wearing just a seat belt. It didn't really help out Senna but it would cut down on a load of head injuries.
If they pass mandatory helmet laws for cars, I'd be willing to wear a lap belt on my bike. Fair is fair.

and neither of those scenarios affects the gov't.
consumers of insurance companies pay for that in their premiums. Once the liability money is reached, it's the responsibility of the paralyzed idiot that didn't wear a seatbelt to pay for his medical bills, not the gov't.

Unless you consider yourself and every other taxpayer "anyone else".
"In 1991, prior to enacting its helmet law, California's state medical insurance program paid $40 million for the treatment of motorcycle-related head injuries. That figure dropped to $24 million after enactment of a universal helmet law."
"A privately conducted California study put the average cost of hospital admissions for a non-helmeted rider at $17,704. Of this initial amount, 72 percent of the costs for hospitalization were paid by the State of California, with another 10 percent being paid by other tax-based sources."
"Another study found that 57 percent of the patients listed a government program as the principal payer of in-patient hospital costs resulting from motorcycle crashes."
Show me the link where individuals rates were cut almost in half.

Clinton was speaking in Philadelphia and offered her tax hike endorsement out of the blue. She said:
“I’m very supportive of the mayor’s proposal to tax soda to get universal preschool for kids. I mean, we need universal preschool, and if that’s a way to do it, that’s how we should do it.”
