At least you understand .... exactly why I posted what I did. Thought of what some of the bad guys would do & wrote that down to remind everyone how crucial organized protection is during a large scale catastrophe like this.
There are bad hombres out there. LA would be better off than most, b/c of their sense of community & outdoor sufficiency
compared to many places around the US who generally only look out for themselves.

Not exactly, that is a bit oversimplified

Nah. Old diesel with mechanical fuel injection. EMP can't get you if you don't have an engine computer, electronic fuel injection, or an ignition system.
Plus, they'll run on damn near any fuel.
I keep an old 7.3 IDI 5spd for this very reason, not worth shite but still cranks and runs.

Load up supplies and head to the camp on Toledo Bend in my Grandfather's old Truck (pre-computer). Fish and hunt. I would then use my Jedi like mind skills to become overlord to the locals. I would pimp out the local women in trade for supplies from weary travelers. Apocalypse pimp would be a upwardly mobile career.

A huge EMP or something similar sends us back to the Stone Age. No structural damage occurs, but electricity, internet, utilities, and refineries are knocked out indefinitely. What is your first move or objective?
Vintage car...with the metal bodies, the cars would protect electronics like a faraday cage...still, the older the better.
Stock up on vacuum tubes and other electronic items that aren't controlled by solid state circuitry. Solar panels and a battery bank storage system would come in handy, too.
