quote:Right, all I'm saying is the speed differential between the fastest and slowest cars is one of the variables that contribute to accidents on high speed roads. And the posted speed limit indirectly controls that speed differential to an extent... the higher the posted speed, the greater the range of speeds you should see people driving.
More dangerous only in the lethality of otherwise identical collisions, however this is compensated for by the fact that accidents are actually LESS common at faster speeds. This is due to the fact that there are far fewer driving variables on highways and interstates where speeds are the highest.
quote:I'm still having a hard time believing this. Faster speeds mean less time to react and greater potential to lose control. There may be little correlation, but I can't see "no correlation whatsoever".
Speeding has no correlation whatsoever if you are otherwise obeying the traffic flow laws.
Don't get me wrong, I know there are lots of places with slow speed limits posted strictly to increase ticket revenue, and where the data absolutely does not support an argument that it is safer. I'm only arguing that speed does matter at a particular point for a given piece of road.

I'm a truck driver, but it was in my personal vehicle. So I need it reduced to a non moving, if that's possible, or I get the axe.
Call the DA for the jurisdiction where you got the ticket. Perhaps they'll knock it down to a non-moving violation. Usually you have to take an on-line driver safety course, for a fee, and pay a fine.

Maybe don't go 82 in a 65, next time?

You know the rules just like every other CDL driver. Sounds like you either didn't care or thought you could get off because of the CDL. You would be fired on the spot with most customers we deal with. Good luck.

LMAO at the folks that don't comprehend MS and LA are different states.
There is no article 894 in MS, calls to the DA's office are going to get you ticket prices and nothing else.
OP You have two options here
1 find someone in the area with some pull that can speak to the officer, the cop likely still has the ticket on him.
2 plead not guilty in person and hope the DA makes you an offer to make it easy on himself.
82 in a 65 is not going to be a big deal, you should have asked the officer to use a reduced speed, they often will.
If you acted an arse in any way you are screwed here.
Where were you

If you really don't want to lose your job and it could cost you... then you probably have an option to attend a one time drivers class.. and they remove the ticket or some crap.
It's been years though so I have no idea if that's an option.. but is Mississippi out of state for you?

If you don't feel like lawyer-ing up, explain the circumstances as someone else said. Be kind. It may work. Key word, may.
and slow the frick down unless everyone around you is going the same speed
