I have a top loading speed queen washing machine. This weekend, I started the washer and got distracted and forgot to put clothes in. By the time I remembered there were no clothes in there, the washer was at the spin cycle. I stopped the washer by turning the dial to the end of the cycle instead of letting it complete the cycle.

This morning when I went to start a load of laundry, I turned the knob to the beginning of the cycle, but the washer immediately started up in the middle of the spin cycle where it left off previously. I have tried to run it through two full cycles but it still starts up at spin or rinse cycle now, no matter what section I start the knob at. Does anyone have any advice for this? It's kind of bizarre.

Did you power down and restart it?

Do you mean just unplug it? It has run all the way to off, but I have not unplugged it yet.

I unplugged and still the same result. Started the cycle from the beginning but the washer started on the agitate part, when filling with water should have been happening.

Any chance your spin dial skipped forward on the spindle? Pull the dial off and check the alignment.
