Space X plans unmanned mission to Mars in 2018

It's either going to be them or NASA, why not go with the less expensive option?
IMO space exploration, the technology that comes out of it (which boosts our economy), and the budding private sector space companies is a worthy thing to support. I'd much rather my tax dollars go to this than another pointless adventure in the ME.
