While the airline had required applicants to have spent at least 1,000 hours flying such aircraft, The Wall Street Journal said Saturday that it will now consider candidates with less of that type of experience.

Need to limit the number of hours on their online scheduling system before upgrading their software

To be fair this is to be copilot. To be captain would take a while

Is this to boost minority #'s?

That’s still more hours needed than just 10 years ago. After Sully landed that plane in the Hudson he got famous and ran his mouth about pilots needing 1000 hours. Everyone fell in line and did that. It was just over 300 if I can remember correctly.

Having watched analysis of lots of major crashes around the world, that's little comfort. The majority of them were the left seater letting the right seater fly or land when something went wrong.

shite I drive boats and we had a few steps. During the period where it is like a learner's permit I needed almost 3,000 hours. So when I see 1,000 for a pilot I'm like that isn't shite. Can't even imagine having less then that.

My first wife was ‘tarded. She’s a pilot now.
