It is fine but not as desireable as moving to the Southern part of Baton Rouge. The people who bought my homes in the early 2000's all had kids going to STM.

I had 6 rental homes I redid and had rent to own tenants in the Sherwood Forest area. I bought them in the early 1990's when they had a lot of foreclosed homes in that area mostly due to layoffs in the chemical plants. The most expensive home I bought was a two story for $40k that needed $100k of work in the 1990's. Back then when the foreclosures were all over this subdivision spending $100k in work plus $40k to buy a house not worth $140k during this period did not make sense. I did it and was able to finally sell the homes in the early 2000's and barely make my money back on a updated home.

The Eastern part of the subdivision was going down in the early 90's, it had a slight upswing, and then after Katrina this area been less desired being closer to Belaire, little Jamaica, and Blvd de Providence. Only shot you have in making money is finding a house near STM that needs work and get it for a good price.

The other side of Sherwood farther from Florida Blvd and that did not flood are still slowly going down just not as fast. I had two in that area and they sold quicker for higher price.
