You've got to be kidding.
Can you explain how marines who are required to go back to their barracks every night (who scan IDs at the door to get in and get breathalyzed on a regular basis) are getting away with underage drinking?
I would love to know your method.

You said "military". I'm not talking about some random duty station. I can assure you that there is a shitload of underage drinking going on in the military.

Absolutely. However, for the most part, you don't see it. It's happening it hotel rooms and peoples apartments close to base. Not in bars and on the streets. These two scenarios are completely different.

Not even close.
If you truly believe that DWI/fatal car crash rates would not increase with the drinking age lowered, you must be out of your mind.

I think the United States should do away with a "legal drinking age". Setting a specific age limit and then just giving open season to buy and consume alcohol is not working.

I don't know. I lived in the barracks when I was underage and when we were off duty we were drunk pretty much all the time. In the barracks, on post. It wasn't even secretive.

When were you in? What branch?

Yes
18 is old enough for prison than drinking should be allowed at that age.

I don't really know anything about the Army.
The Navy is really starting to crack down on the underage drinking stuff really hard. I've seen several careers end because of distribution to minors and just underage drinking. It really is getting ridiculous.

In my experience, when I was a young private, the army came just short of encouraging drinking. They play lip service. My 1SG in Korea's PT policy was I don't care if you show up drunk and puke but you better run and puke. If you fall out you get a Breathalyzer.

I'll never get the correlation inbetween joining the military and the drinking age. We haven't had a draft in almost 50 years, so they all choose to join. You can actually join at 17, in some cases. But its such a small segment of the group. What percentage of 18-20 year olds are in the military? 10%?
I would rather just grant service members the ability to purchase alcohol at the earlier age. Just a bonus to joining.

It doesn't happen to 18 years olds on military bases.
Como what? The military sure has changed over the last few years, then.

They should raise it to 25.
