As long as we can put them out on the ice when they hit 62 and have no savings.

Possible solution to the obvious SS shortfall for young GenX and Millennials that will pay in but doesn't seem likely to get a dime...

Everyone is talking about robots and how they will take all our jobs . And everyone is talking about to fill in the gap of these lost jobs and revenue to John q Public to pay a national wage..Well, how about we use a portion of those funds to fund SS and that could be the extra needed to support people ?

Youre not required by law to get an SSN for your child. It makes life a little more difficult for them as an adult since every a-hole requires your SSN for shite but there are ways around all of it.

The biggest problem with not having an SSN is actually giving the government your money. In other words, paying your income taxes. The IRS requires an SSN, ITIN or ATIN in order to file. Problem is, unless youve been adopted or are a foreign national the IRS doesnt allow a regular US born child to receive an ITIN or ATIN and you cant file with out one of those 3 numbers. Its a catch 22 they setup to keep the Social Security System solvent.

I tried to avoid getting both my children SSNs for their own good but the wife pitched such a bitch-fest about us missing out on the tax breaks that I caved. I chastised her about it because the total write-offs for the two of them through age 18 was only around $36K. They are going to pay FAR more than that in SS tax over their lifetimes. The State of LA also wouldnt have allowed me to get their lifetime hunting and fishing permits without an SSN and its way cheaper if you get it before they are 2 years old.

The best way to avoid paying SS tax is to stop using your SSN. For everything. Just pretend you dont have one. The SS Administration doesnt have a process to allow you to rescind your number. Once youre in their system youre in it for life. Once again, to keep the system afloat. It would crash if everyone decided all at once to stop paying SS tax or if a giant wave of citizens stopped giving their children SSNs for a period of time.

Most people would be better off investing that money themselves for retirement but there are so many idiots in our society who dont think long term that we would end up in the exact scenario that prompted the SS system in the first place. That is, old people dying on the street en masse.

I could see the government having to trade publicly owned property(like land) in the future in lieu of payments and then ceasing the program.

It'll never happen because social security is a ponzi scheme. They don't have your money. It's being paid to current recipients
